Laboratory Services

Rutland Regional Medical Center's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine provides a wide range of testing services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our Laboratory supports the work of the hospital's medical staff by providing accurate analysis and quick turn-around of laboratory tests. It also provides services to area physician offices, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, corporations and others.

The Laboratory has earned accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and Health & Human Services CLIA.

It is an affiliate of the NorthEast Community Laboratory Alliance (NECLA), Fletchen Allen Health Care (Burlington, Vermont) and Mayo Medical Laboratories (Rochester, Minnesota).

Rehab Services

The Rehabilitation Services at Rutland Regional Medical Center is dedicated to meeting the individual needs of patients. We provide a continuum of care in the Inpatient and Outpatient settings, with transition to work and community. Rehabilitation services include:

Pain Management: Uses a variety of methods to treat pain problems. Your individual treatment program could involve medicines, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pool therapy, behavioral pain management with a psychologist, or procedures including diagnostic/therapeutic injections. We want to help you increase your ability to function, as well as reduce or eliminate your pain. Three board certified physicians, each of whom is trained in pain management and related specialties, partner with patients to reduce or eliminate pain and increase daily functioning. Occupational Therapy: The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for a variety of functional areas including basic self-care tasks (feeding, dressing, bathing), as well as the more advanced skills of home management (meal planning and preparation, money and time management) and community skills. Programs are developed to maximize each patient's physical and intellectual capacity to improve performance in daily tasks. Physical Therapy: The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of areas of mobility including transfers, wheelchair mobility and household/community walking skills. The PT also addresses areas of strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Treatment methods are designed to promote functional independence. The PT also assists with recommendations for proper equipment and training to maximize safety and independence.

Speech-Language Pathology: The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) works as a member of the team to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing deficits. Evaluation and treatment focus on the thought processes underlying language, communication and learning, as well as the physiological mechanisms of speech production, swallowing and voice.

The SLP works with patients and families to develop communication and cognitive strategies to foster functional independence in the home, community and work/school settings, including alternative/augmentative communication systems. The SLP also screens the patient's hearing and recommends referrals if needed.

Diagnostic Imaging Services

Rutland Regional Medical Center's diagnostic imaging technology contains some of New England's most advanced equipment and services. Our hospital's diagnostic imaging staff includes expert, award-winning technologists and Board Certified radiologists. Together, they offer patients and physicians many options for treating health problems.

Available imaging services include CT, PET and MRI scanning, ultrasound, X-ray, digital fluoroscopy, angiography, mammography, nuclear medicine and bone density testing.
